José Tadeo, academic tutor at the Heliopolis Academy Residence: "The player must be integrated into society, not only in sport"

"The mission of the academic advisor is to supervise the students studies and guide them pedagogically"

Apart from being the Real Betis U14 A coach, José Tadeo Martin, is also the academic tutor for the players who reside at the Heliopolis Academy. He plays a key role in one of the fundamental aspects of the Heliopolis Academy: the Academy players' education.

"The more complete the player the better. They should feel useful and are given to understand that the proportion players who reach 'elite' of football is low, but they are privileged because they have two options: soccer and studies. The player must be integrated into society and not only receive a sporting education", he says.

Tadeo, who has been linked to Betis for 14 years now and is a member of the teaching staff at the Seville Christian Doctrine School, explains his work with the youths at the Heliopolis Academy.

"The mission is to supervise the students studies and guide them pedagogically. There are 24 boys in our care and the main objective is for them to complete their Secondary Education and then, on an individual basis advise them on their best options be that vocational training, A-levels or university degrees. In short, we try to advise them academically and not just a football apprenticeship so they get to know other aspects of life, "he says.

To this end, there are more personnel who complement the activity of the Betis U14 A training staff. 'There are four other resident tutors to deal with their needs on a day to day basis, whether there are any changes in their situation, lack of discipline or truancy we are informed by email and we review the situation", he adds.

José Tadeo gave a positive evaluation of the new facilities at the Heliopolis Academy Residence in addition to his explanation of the educational philosophy there. "The new residential facilities have made a great difference. It has common rooms, study areas and living quarters with individual desks in each room. It helps them to develop other skills such as autonomy, so they realize that they have a schedule to meet", he concludes.
