Cejudo: “The team has grown from the defensive strength”
Petros and Westermann also spoke after the match
Álvaro Cejudo spoke before the media after the match at Estadio de Vallecas. The player from Cordoba, who gave the assist to Rubén Castro in the second goal of the match, outlined the job done by the team to achieve the victory: “We played really well. The team has grown from the defensive strength. Westermann’s goal gave us wings because when you are up in the score you can control the timing of the match and I think we did it.”
Westermann’s goal: “When he arrived I told him he will be the killer in the team, but I didn’t expect him to do the play he did today.”
Third victory of the season: “We have obtained today a victory that comes in handy to get confidence for the match against Espanyol.”
Team work: “In the end it’s about the group, starting from the back. The strength in defense is giving us a lot of things. In midfield we are doing what we are asked to do, to help both in defense and in attack. And we have attacking players that can decide a match.”
Play in the second goal: “I haven’t seen it because when I stole the ball Zé Castro hit me. I was having difficulties to breath but I think Rubén Castro controlled and scored. I’ve been told it happened that way but I couldn’t see it.”
Personal performance at the beginning of the season: “It’s a completely different season. First division has nothing to do with the second. I’m eager to please all the fans and, specially, help the team.”
The second Betis player to speak for the press was Petros: “It is an important victory away and against a rival that has historically given problems to Real Betis. We did well, we worked and fought. I’m very happy with the victory.”
Ball recovery: “I think it’s a new record. I believe there were eight or nine times, which is a high number for a league like the Spanish. I’m very happy, excited to grow more and help Real Betis.”
Westermann: “He was like Beckenbauer. We are not only a team, we are a family. One’s happiness is also for everyone else and that’s vital.”
Self-analysis: “I’ll play when it’s my turn. The most important thing is that we are all ready when it’s our turn. I train hard so when the opportunity arrives I’m ready to perform.”
Also Westermann gave his impressions about the match:“It has been a perfect week. We are attacking and defending together and we have also won the two matches.”
First goal as Betis player: “The main thing is that we didn’t make mistakes. We knew we were going to have options if we didn’t make mistakes and so it was. Regarding the goal, I saw the option to go on attack and I took the chance. I’ve scored goals like this in Germany before, but some years ago. The victory is what matters.”
Fans’ support: “I like the environment that surrounds Real Betis and I hope I can help the team every week. If we win everything’s ok. Now it’s time to go home and train well in the next two weeks.”
