MATCH REPORT | The only thing missing was another goal (1-1)
The team had the control of the game and the chances but couldn't take the three points
Real Betis Balompié tied tonight against Deportivo Alavés. The team got the lead early on thanks to a goal from Lo Celso but the visitors scored soon afterwards. The team dominated the match and had all the chances, but couldn't score for a second time.
The game began with slow pace, as there were many interruptions. The first chance was for Jesé, whose effort was blocked by Pacheco.
Step by step, Betis got the ball and started to attack. The next occasion, though, was for Alavés, whose cross was deflected by Barragán and curled towards the goal, but Pau López sent it over the bar. In the following play, Carvalho began a great counterattack and assisted Jesé. The striker shot and Pacheco saved it, but Lo Celso grabbed the rebound and tapped the ball in.
A few minutes later, Jesé had a great chance to score his first as Green and White. Lo Celso produced a sensational pass towards Jesé, who dribbled the keeper and shot but a defender cleared over the goal line. Even looking at the replays is not clear of the ball crossed the line. LaLiga does not have goal line technology.
Two minutes later, the away time got the equaliser. In a free kick and after several rebounds, Maripán got the ball one yard away from the goal and smashed it in. The goal fell hard on the team, and the next five minutes were for Alavés, the only five minutes in which they controlled in the entire game.
The team got back in their feet and started to attack. Guardado had a great opportunity after a great play from canals, but he smashed the ball over the bar.
Three minutes into the second half and referee Mateu Lahoz didn't show Duarte a yellow card after a nasty tackle that deserved, at least a booking. It would have been the player's second card. The next chance was Feddal with a header that Pacheco deflected with a phenomenal save. The team kept on attacking and Canales tried from outside the box. At this point, Alavés were completely under siege and Betis did not stop trying.
After a great team play, canals tried again to find again Pacheco. The midfielder had another one with a free kick that went over the bar. Carvalho also looked for it from the Edge of the box, again unlucky.
The team continued pushing. Lo Celso produced a great pass towards Loren. The striker controlled but took too long to shoot, and Laguardia blocked his shot. The last one was also for Loren who received a good cross from Lo Celso but his header went straight against the body of the keeper.
