MATCH REPORT | Real Betis is defeated by Atletico de Madrid (1-0)

Correa scored the only goal

Real Betis Balompié lost today against Club Atletico de Madrid. After six league games undefeated, the Green and Whites couldn't against their rival in a quite even game. A goal scored by Correa in the second half decided the match.

Soon after the start, Loren had the first chance of the game. He made a run towards the goal following a long pass and found himself in front of Oblak but his effort went wide. The game had begun with Betis trying to have the possession but finding a strong pressing from the rival.

Step by step, and with difficulties, Betis managed to have the ball more than the rival. The home team had their first occasion through an effort from Filipe Luis that went out. Bad news for the Green and Whites, as Guardado had to leave the pitch after 15 minutes due to a hamstring injury, being replaced by Carvalho.

The game was tight in almost every sense, with Betis having the ball for longer and getting close to opposite box more times along the first half. Atletico made a late push in the final minutes but no clear chances occurred.

Just after the beginning of the second half, Betis had the first with a Lo Celso effort that a defender deflected to corner-kick. Griezmann replied with a strong shot that Pau López saved. A couple of minutes later, Kalinic found the post with a left-footed effort in the clearest chance so far in the game.

It seemed than the locals had started better in the second half. The high pressure of the home team was now putting Real Betis under real pressure. Pau again responded with a fantastic save to a shot from Kalinic inside the box. Eventually, betis managed to relieve the pressure and had a couple of chances that unsettled the opponents.

However, Atletico managed to score. Correa took the ball following a mistake in the midfield and shot from just outside the box to the bottom left corner. Mandi almost levelled the scored up with a header but Hernández made enough to send to ball out, but the referee gave a goal kick instead of corner.

Real Betis tried to push in the final minutes and put Atletico under siege. However, the team didn't manage to overcome the rivals' defence and came home empty handed.
