Real Betis, winner of the Andalusia Sports Award 2019 for their multidisciplinary management
The regional government, Junta de Andalucía, chose the Club as Best Sporting Agent for their “good direction” of the male basketball and Futsal teams and the female football team, as they all will be playing in the top division next year
Real Betis are the recipients of the Andalusia Sports Awards 2019, given by Junta de Andalucía, the regional government, in the category of Best Sporting Agent. The reasons behind the award are "their good direction in several areas", such as "taking the reins" of the basketball team of the city of Seville and "maintaining it in the ACB", the top Spanish league, as well as the "management of the male Futsal team and the female football team."
Real Betis, with the support of other institutions, managed to avoid the extinction of CB Sevilla in 2016. Months later, in a Shareholders General Meeting, the purchase of the basketball team was approved, and the club was incorporated to Real Betis Balompié.
After two difficult first years, last season the team achieved the promotion to the ACB in a record campaign and won the Copa Princesa. In the top division, the now called Coosur Real Betis achieved the target of avoiding relegation and wants to definitely establish in the national top competition.
The definitive integration of the Futsal team in Real Betis was also approved in the 2016 Shareholders General Meeting. The team kept growing and played the promotion playoffs the past two years. Finally, during the current season, the team won the Second Division and will play in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Sala next season. Also, the team qualified for the Final Four of Copa del Rey, yet to be played.
Real Betis also have a women's section since the 2011/2012 season. The first team got promoted to the top division in 2015/2016 and has now been four straight seasons there, finishing in sixth place twice.
For this reason, Junta de Andalucía wanted to acknowledge to work done by the Club and their multidisciplinary expansion. In fact, Real Betis is the only club in Spain, alongside FC Barcelona, with a team in the main national competitions in male football, basketball, Futsal, and female football.
