Setién: “Valencia CF have been better than us”
Press conference
Quique Setién has addressed the media at Mestalla Stadium after the game against Valencia CF.
Disallowed goal: “During the game it looked like a normal play. I saw that the keeper had a small clash with another player, I think it was their own defender. I can’t tell exactly because I haven’t seen the replay yet. I’ve been told there’s no foul and that the goal is completely legal. It is what it is. This action could have put us back in the game. I don’t want to use it as an excuse because, in general, I think Valencia were better than us. However, we did many things well that could have taken us back in the game, too. We had several clear actions. We have to consider the attacking strength of this team. They have pacey and difficult to control players, and good pass takers such as Parejo. He’s an extraordinary player.”
Valencia CF style: “Maybe, I don’t know. Maybe Marcelino and I are not very similar, but I also like to defend well and counterattack when I can. The reality is that their first goal comes in a play in which we are pressing close to the corner. Gayá gives an extraordinary pass and Parejo controls and gives a 40-metre pass. It doesn’t have anything to do with Marcelino or me. They are great players that see these plays that are so difficult to stop. We maybe could have solved it better. I have to analyse it closely because it was a quick play. Rodrigo is a strong, fast player. He got the ball and is difficult to stop.
You could have been Valencia’s manager: “I don’t like to lie and say things that weren’t true. There were big chances for me to come here, but you have a great manager.”
