Nono: "We have to put our lives on the line against Granada to cling to league survival"
"All we can ask of the fans is that they support us right up to the end of the season", said the young player
Win or win. That is the only way to continue strengthening the possibilities of staying in the First Division in Granada on Sunday. This was Nono's message today at midday in the press room at the Benito Villamarín Stadium. The Cadiz midfielder, who could regain his place as a starter against Granada if his performance in this week's training sessions is anything to go by, attended the media to discuss the urgent need to string some victories together in order for the team to fulfil the tall order of staying in the First Division given their current standing in the league.
A vital match: “We didn't manage to get a win against Valencia, so we hope that this week we will manage to get a good result so we can build up our confidence and continue working hard”.
Preparation for the match: “We are working hard to be as strong as possible. Granada is a direct rival of ours, close to us in the league table at the moment. We want to win the match to get the boost in morale that we need”.
Playing with a defence of five: “We have to adapt to the formation that the Boss proposes. The only reason he is doing it is so we can get better results”.
Personal situation: “There have been a lot of changes. I have never experienced that before. It was a little weird for me, a little out of control. I hope that things have changed now and I can continue to get the match minutes I need”.
No away wins: “The team is under pressure which is only normal. In my case I get overly worked up because of the situation we are in. If we weren't in this situation there wouldn't be so much anxiety”.
If you lose would all hopes of permanence be lost?: “Definitively no, but it will be complicated. There are still a lot of points up for grabs and we are still hopeful. We will cling to those hopes. We have to put our lives on the line in this match in order to win”.
What do you expect of Granada?: “They are at the doors of the relegation zone. Playing at home surrounded by their fans, they are going to go all out. They need the points to take the pressure off. It's going to be a tough match and we hope to be up to it".
Out rivals see a match against Betis as an easy victory: “No one likes to be in that situation. None of the players are having a good time of it. It pisses me off knowing that is what other teams think. My team mates feel the same. We have to put our best foot forward wherever we play. For the fans we have to face up to anyone”.
Chants about the Second Division at some stadiums: “It screws with your head when some spectators do that. It's not nice. We have to work to make changes so that it doesn't happen”.
What would you say to the fans?: “All we can ask of the fans is that they support us right up to the end of the season. It is a hard season for them too. We are not giving the fans what they deserve. We want them to protect us and support us throughout the match, we need that”.
Divided opinions amongst the fans: "That is only natural, everyone has their own opinion and feels differently about things. You have to understand what's happening and who they support and who they don't”.
The state of the reserves: “There are some very good players in the Academy, both in the reserves and in the other teams. I would love to see more academy players in the first team. That's where I came from, and I am proud of that. Betis looks after their youth teams and I'm sure if they work they will get their chance”.
