The second UEFA Europa League match and again there were a lot of rotations in Mel's starting eleven. The made nine changes in the line-up since the last match but this encounter did not have the characteristics that the green-and-whites would have liked. In the ninth minute of the match Betis was losing 1-0. The Croatian team played their game right from the start and this affected the visiting team. Hanging back and relying on counter-attacks, their control of the ball made them complacent and they were surprised by Tomecak's centre pass which Benko put away. With a good team putting up a solid defence and the slow run of play that was characterising the match things did not look good for Betis. But after four minutes later Cedrick tided. The Congolese fantastic right-footed shot slipped into the corner of Vargic's goal and drew the match. From this moment on the goalkeeper was to take a leading role in the match together with the team from Heliópolis. Another shot on target by Cedrick, a header by Braian and a shot by Juanfran found the same common denominator, Vargic. Rijeka did not get back into Andersen's area until the final minutes of the first half when the complicated things a little but without causing excessive danger. The interval arrived with a draw in the scoreboard. The second half was divided into three phases. In the first phase Rijeka put the pressure on and Real Betis had a bad time of it. Neither of the teams had control of the second phases. After the 65th minute the third phases saw complete domination by Betis. This domination did not create much real danger. Only in the first few minutes after the substitution of Lolo and Salve who were replaced by Nosa and Verdú, was any headway made in Juanfran's wing. This actions did not culminate in a final pass and the minutes of the second half ticked away without any clear scoring opportunities and Betis reaped a second draw in the Europa League giving the sensation that there was a good feeling but a lack of finishing.
