MATCH REPORT | Real Betis loses the derby (1-2)

Durmisi scored for the Green-and-Whites

Real Betis could not win the derby today. In a quite even match, the team controlled the first half, being much superior to the rival. However, the second half was different and Betis struggled. The rival took advantage and score in practically their only two shots on goal in the whole game. One of them was offside.

The game was underway with a lot of tension on the pitch, with Real Betis trying to put a high pressure on the rival. It worked out and the first chances were for Betis. The first clear chance was for Sanabria, who headed a cross delivered by Durmisi, but it went high. Sevilla was trying to shake the pressure off but was unable. Petros had a great chance after stealing a ball near the opposite box but his effort went out by the post.

The team was very close to make the first in the 25th minute when Rubén Pardo shot a free-kick that Mandi headed to the crossbar. The superior performance of Real Betis finally paid off. Durmisi shot a fantastic free-kick from six metres outside the box with a great curved ball that hit the back of the net. The Danish scored his first goal as Betis player. In the last minutes of the first half, Betis still tried more to increase the difference, but it couldn’t be.

The second half began with the same eleven men in Real Betis but Sevilla introduced two changes. The away team took a much more offensive approach, moving their lines forward and putting a lot of pressure. The first chance was for Piccini, though. The Italian shot after a pass by Petros, but the ball hit the side of the net. However, Sevilla tied up the score. Free-kick delivered to the heart of the box. Mercado headed and Adán made a great save but the ball fell to same player who tapped it in.

The rival took the chance when Betis was not pressing as much as in the first one, and they attacked more now than in the whole first half. Betis was suffering for the goal and conceded the second. A play very similar to the one in the first one, but this time was Iborra, being offside, who scored. A mistake by the assistant referee that had a huge impact.

Víctor tried to make the team react and made two substitutions. They worked and the team improved. The team tried until the end but it couldn’t be.
