Jorge Molina: “It’s one of my best years in Betis"

Number ‘19’ made against Mallorca his 82nd goal with Real Betis in official competitions

Jorge Molina is going through one of his sweetest moments since he is Real Betis player. The striker has scored 14 goals in the second leg of the championship (16 in total). In this remarkable season, his partnership with Rubén Castro is one of the pillars of the team. Molina spoke before the media, after the match against RCD Mallorca, about several topics.

Great season at a personal level: “It’s been a little difficult for me. I didn’t expect to have so few minutes at the beginning. Then, it has been hard to score so many goals in the second leg.”

Is this your best year in Real Betis?: “I’m having a very positive scoring streak. There were some other moments when I felt great here, like when we qualified for European competition. I had a very good year back then. But it’s true that this one is among the best.

Do you have time to think about the future?: “I think match after match, about enjoying and helping the team to achieve the goal. If I’m also scoring, it’s much better for my confidence.”

Do you see yourself in Real Betis next year?: “Of course I do. I have another year in my contract; my wish is to stay here. We’ll have plenty to talk about, but my wish is to remain in Real Betis.”

Long-term contract : “We have been talking through the whole season. The Club has to value the situation. We’ll sit down and talk.”

Trust from Pepe Mel, key on his performance: “Hearing form the manager that he trusts you and he’s going to help you is a reason to be happy. You always perform better when you feel this trust. I try to answer on the pitch.”

Rubén Castro-Jorge Molina, a lethal pair: “There are five matches left. Let’s see if we both can continue our momentum and keep scoring, because that would mean points for the team.”

You are on the way to score more goals than in the last promotion: “The upside is that we are two strikers that enjoy scoring, but we are not selfish. If we see a mate in a better position to score, we pass the ball to them.”

Is Jorge Molina aware of how difficult is to have an attacking pair like this again in Real Betis?: “We don’t think about it right now, we keep playing and trying to make the best that we can. We hope we can score more goals until the end of the season and increase the amount we have so far.”
