Petros: "Why can’t we win on Sunday? We have a different feeling”
“We have to play as we did the other at Villarreal, strong in the midfield and going fast when we have the ball”, stated Betis number ‘25’
Petros has given a press conference today in the press room at Luis del Sol Training Centre to analyse the upcoming match on Sunday against Real Madrid. The Brazilian midfielder answered several questions regarding the last matches, the feeling among the players after the draw at Villarreal, and the near future of the team.
Match at Villarreal: “I was good to get back our confidence. It was important for us to see that when we fight we can be very strong. The feelings were different to the previous matches.”
Difficult beginning of the year: “I’m a sensible man. I knew that this month will make us go up or down. I stayed here during Christmas training hard because I knew it was going to be a hard month. Then, things didn’t work out well for us since the match in Las Palmas until the game against Sevilla. A derby is not just about football; it’s on the streets, among the family members, everywhere in this city. We can’t change it now, we need to work and improve. We have the whole second leg ahead of us, and now we need to make our Stadium a fortress. It was the other way around during the first half of the season. Now, things are more at ease, we are working harder and we focus on what we need. We are all going in the same direction.”
Mental block due to the negative results: “This month has been really hard, it’s a mental issue. We need to be calm. When people are mentally strong, they are capable of anything. I always look for what’s best. When you are not performing technically, the minimum you can do is to fight. I talk with my teammates and I tell them ‘come on!’. If we don’t win, at least we must show that we are fighting for these colours.”
Match against Real Madrid: “We are not trying to fool anyone. It’s a difficult match against one of the best teams in the world, with economic power to sign any player they want. We are in different places, but we are playing at home in front of our fans. Seville is a city that breathes football. We can turn everything upside down. Why not? We are strong. We played against Villarreal and everyone was thinking we were going to lose because Villarreal had won six matches in a row. We controlled the game and played well. Why not this next Sunday? The manager has told us that he wants us to be at home as we are when playing away; to play with the same intensity.”
How can you beat Real Madrid?: “Like we played the other day, being strong in the midfield and going fast when we have the ball. We can’t fail on Sunday.”
Arrival of Juan Merino: “Merino is a man with a strong character. He only asks us to give our 100 %. He doesn’t know if he’s staying or not but he’s demanding and tries for the best. We need that.”
Kadir, Fabián, and recent changes in the last matches: “We have people like Kadir and Fabián who hadn’t played much in the last matches and they did great the other day. Some people may be wondering how is it possible that some players that didn’t use to play are now doing it so. The secret is to work and be ready for when the opportunity comes, like the change of manager. It’s like the players in Real Madrid that were not playing before and now they have the chance. It’s the same for us. It’s all about mentality, to think that you are able to do it, have confidence in your work and that I can beat anyone.”
Change in Real Madrid with the arrival of Zidane: “They were playing differently, same as us. It’s been a change in both clubs, we don’t know what will happen at Benito Villamarín. I think we’ll see a god match.”
Signings in the winter market: “If some players arrive to help and fight for this Club and they feel these colours, they will be welcome.”
