Poyet, on the new players: "We were quick at first, now we’re waiting for our first choices”
“The team is getting to know what to do and understanding basic concepts. We need to improve from there”, says the manager
Once the stage in Germany is finished, Gustavo Poyet spoke before the media to give his impressions about the evolution of the team during the preseason.
Analysis of the second stage of the preseason: “The team is getting to know what to do and understanding basic concepts. We need to improve from there.”
Satisfied?: “Yes, I use the preseason to gather a lot of information. I’m responsible of what happens after the 20th of August, now it’s all about information.”
Line-up in the games against Werder Bremen and Everton: “I didn’t say that the ones who play against Werder Bremen were going to be the bench players during the seasons, neither that the ones against Everton were going to be my starting eleven. It all depends on them.”
Durmisi: “He’s trying to adapt and listen to what he needs to do in defence; he’s a defender after all. He’s understanding it and asking questions. He’s the one struggling more with the language. The French guys have it easier, and Musonda speaks Spanish. He’s the only one to whom we are always speaking in English, and that plays it part. When he’s on the pitch, he has to react depending on what he understands.”
Dani Ceballos: “He’s our extension on the pitch, no doubt”
Players yet to come: “We’re working on it, there are players still to come and others to leave. It’s all the time on the press, that’s not my style. We are in a world where everybody knows everything and we need to adapt.”
Are you focus on signing a defensive midfielder?: “There’s more, but that’s one of the positions."
First options: “We are still waiting for the first choices. We had a schedule and it’s going better than expected. Now we are at ease.”
