Víctor Sánchez del Amo: "The effort of players and fans didn’t have its reward”
The manager addressed the media
Real Betis head coach, Víctor Sánchez del Amo, answered the questions by the media after the game against Sevilla FC.
Match analysis: “We played a great first half and we were even short of goals, we deserved more. We began the second half with the same idea than in the first, trying to push and play in their half of the pitch. We wanted to continue with the same concentration in set plays. We know how strong they are in that sense. We defended well in the first half and we wanted to continue in the same way. They played Iborra and their style changed, playing more long balls to avoid our pressure. In the second half they’ve won all the second balls and that made that the game developed more in our side of the field. Their two goals came in set plays, though. One of them I’ve been told that’s offside. We didn’t have the luck in our side to make a fairer score. Seeing how equal the game was in number of chances and other aspects, a draw would have been fairer.”
The second goal was offside: “We never use the referee decisions as excuses. It’s a fact that it happened and it affected the score, but that’s no excuse for us. We have the feeling that the effort of players and fans didn’t have its reward. It can be seen that the team wants and fights against very good teams. The game was really even. That situation is no excuse for us. We are upset, but we have another game on Tuesday and we need to keep going.”
