Varela renews his contract with Real Betis
The left wing-back and apprentice, capped with Spain's youth teams, signs for two more seasons
Francisco Varela (26/10/1994, Atarfe, Granada) has renewed his contract with Real Betis this evening. The left-back, who ended his association with the club last June, has signed until 2016 and although his contract is with Betis B he will try to continue taking firm footsteps to gain a foothold in the first team.
The player will complete his seventh season with the Heliopolis Academy, after arriving when he was 13 years of age from Granada CF. Since then he has risen to become a cornerstone of Betis B, playing twenty matches last season and scoring three goals, and his contribution was essential to the reserves achievement of becoming Group X champions in the Third Division and their promotion to the second tier of Spanish football.
Capped in the youth sections of the Spanish team, the player from Atarfe trained for most of the second round last season for the Real Betis first team, and even had his debut under the managership of Gabi Calderón in the UEFA Europa League match against Rubin Kazán, playing in Russia in February.
