A good victory in the opening of the second stage of the preseason (0-3)

Rubén, Cedrick and Rennella were the goalscorers against Motherwell FC in a match that wasn't open to the public

Real Betis travelled to Scotland for the first match on British soil against Motherwell FC, a team playing in the Scottish Premier League. During the match Julio Velázquez continued testing the squad. On this occasion, Perquis was featured as the coach decided to try him out in the midfield. This is not a new position for the French player as he has played this position on a number of occasions so he adapted easily, he even joined in on the attacking plays. With Dani; Molinero, Bruno, Jordi, Álex; Xavi, Perquis, Chuli, Pacheco; Molina and Rubén, the Betis team allowed the home team to take the initiative in the opening stages of the match, but the counterattacks and danger by Betis were constant and they did not take long to show their teeth.

In the fourth minute, Rubén came close to putting his team ahead but his shot lacked precession; he had another opportunity in the sixth minute but he fell short after a dribbling the ball in the area. It is strange for the player from the Canary Islands to let opportunities slip through his fingers, and in the 12th minute he scored confirming his recent run of goals putting his team ahead on the scoreboard. Rubén added to his personal tally with this, his fifth goal of the preseason. Generally, it was a good first half for the whole of the team, as in attack Pacheco and Chuli breathed life into the wings and Molina and Rubén found spaces. The player from Alcoy also looked to score but he was not able to finish off the assistance by Rubén from the left wing. The defence was solid and strong, Dani Giménez only got to touch the ball when his teammates passed it back to him in order to ease the pressure. The Heliopolitan team felt comfortable and Pachecho could have widened the gap in the 40th minute. He did not manage to score, but neither did Motherwell just one minute later; consequently, Betis went in for half time in the lead.

Cedrick, Casado, Matilla, Nono and Rennella came on in the second half and the coach dropped Perquis's position back to the full back position. Nono took his place behind Rennella. The inside game took centre stage and the system changed from a 1-4-4-2 to 1-4-2-3-1. Cedrick took advantage of his speed to create danger on the right wing the ball ending up more on this wing. The winger did not disappoint and after giving Nono an assist, which the midfielder did not get to, he scored the second goal of the match. He entered up the right wing, broke into the area and shot with his left foot making it impossible for the home keeper to save.

After the second goal Betis started to play even better, with ever longer possession of the ball and with Nono making the most of the position he will be playing in this season, number 10, boosting the team. In the 36th minute, Matilla invented a pass which broke the home defence giving Rennella the chance of a one on one with the goalie, he did not miss the opportunity and scored the third of the match. A good match, a better feel to the team and a victory in the opening match in this second stage of the preseason.
