Vilarchao’s open letter to Real Betis fans

Farewell and gratitude to the fans

Today is the day I never wanted to come. I made my debut with Real Betis on the 13th of January 2013… It was and unforgettable day and I was convinced it would be the beginning of a long a beautiful career. If somebody had asked me where I would be after this time, not in my worst nightmare I could have imagined that it would be saying goodbye to football, my passion since I was a kid.

Today, I have to leave the football pitch after three years of hard battle to get my ankle recovered. In this time, I have made all the efforts possible to get back on the field, but I have to bid farewell. Even if it breaks my heart, I have come to the conclusion that my ankle is no longer ready to play at the level required in this sport. I don’t easily give up and if you haven’t heard from me in a long time is because I have been focused on my recovery, with no time for complaints.

I won’t be able to play football again but I love this sport so much that I will be linked to it one way or another. I have lost a battle, but not the war in this sport called football that I love so much.

I would like thank all those that have supported me and showed their love. You have been showing interest in me every day. You have made possible for me to find strength even in the hardest times. I will always carry Betis in my heart. I didn’t come being a Betis fan, but I set off being one of the thousands of the Club’s fans around the world. Now I understand why.

I would also like to thank the Club for the trust they had in, giving me a spot in the first team. I feel privileged to have worn this jersey, and I hope our paths meet again in the future. Even if we had our differences in the past, Real Betis has actually protected and looked after me, acting as the great Club it is.

I also don’t want to forget any of the teammates I had during this time. I have shared many good moments with them and they have supported me all the time.

For all this, thank you all. See you soon and Mucho Betis!
