Betis players celebrate the goal scored by Van Wolfswinkel.

Three golden points (1-0)

Van Wolfswinkel scored his first goal in Liga BBVA

Real Betis Balompié won the game against UD Las Palmas. The team was fairly superior against a side that had to play the second half with ten men. The Green-and-Whites attacked tirelessly throughout the whole second half until Van Wolfswinkel took advantage of a great pass by Dani Ceballos to score his first goal in Liga BBVA.

The match began in a slow pace; UD Las Palmas had more possession in the first third of the match. On the other side, Betis was pressing the beginning of the plays tried by the rival. The first clear chance was for Real Betis, though. The referee disallowed a goal scored by Rubén Castro for offside, but the striker was in legal position. Seconds later, Castro had another chance after a cross delivered by Joaquín, but his header went high. After half an hour, Betis had turned things upside down and was the team in control. UD Las Palmas was struggling at this stage.

The game changed in the 40th minute when the referee showed Aythami his second booking after the player pushed Rubén Castro in the midfield. Betis pushed forward in the final minutes, but the score didn’t change before half time. At the beginning of the second half, Merino moved the bench trying to make the superiority count. Musonda and Van Wolfswinkel came on to replace Kadir and Varela. At this stage, Betis was attacking all the time, but Las Palmas was well settled in the back, defending with all their players.

The team had a good chance in the 75th minute after a good team play. Dani Ceballos dribbled two defenders and shot nicely, but the ball went wide by a couple of inches. The fans had to wait until the 83rd minute to feel relief. Dani Ceballos gave a sensational pass to the back of the defence. Van Wolfswinkel controlled inside the box and sent the ball to the back of the net with a great finish.

Real Betis had several options in the final minutes to increase the advantage, but at the final whistle the score was 1-0. Three golden points to play the derby with a different attitude.
