Real Betis is defeated in Copa del Rey (4-0)

The team lost the second leg of last 16

Real Betis was defeated in the second leg of last 16 in Copa del Rey against Sevilla. The team did not comeback in the aggregate score in the debut of Juan Marino in charge of the team. A hard defeat of the Green-and-Whites, that now need to focus on Liga BBVA.

The match started badly for the team when Sevilla scored son after the starting whistle. The home team took advantage in the score in the 4th minute. Reyes gave an open pass to Mariano. The right back sent a cross and, after a few rebounds, the ball fell to Reyes again, who just had to tap it in. A hard blow for the plan of the match in the first arrival of Sevilla to the box.

After the goal, Real Betis did not give up and tried to stretch its lines. On their part, Sevilla, knowing that they had the round in their hand, was moving the ball around patiently, trying to open spaces in Betis defence. However, the tries from the home team were not dangerous enough. Step by step, Real Betis had longer possessions, but was lacking direct passes to the attacking zone.

Sevilla scored again in their second approach to the box. A corner kick started by Reyes that fell to the feet of Rami in the far post. The defender, completely off mark, shot strongly. The ball went in in spite of the efforts from Bruno and Adán. Sevilla scored in their second shot on goal. A hard blow for the chances of the team to turn around the score.

The second chance, on the other hand, started with Real Betis going forward. The team was pressing up high the beginning of the rival’s plays, and Sevilla was struggling to create plays. The Green-and-Whites tried to create longer plays, passing the ball well in the middle. Sevilla tries to take advantage of every mistake and counterattack. The first chance for Real Betis came with shot from distance by Piccini that went wide by just a few inches.

A couple of minutes after, Kadir had another chance after a ball from Joaquín. The winger shot without angle and the ball hit the side of the net. Sevilla scored its third goal soon afterwards, though. A counterattack from the men managed by Emery, tackind advantage of the spaces left by defensive lines of Real Betis. Gameiro, in the first ball he touched on the pitch, set foot on the box and beat Adán.

The goal made the match to lose its pace. Real Betis suffered a punishment after trying in the second half. Sevilla scored again just one minute before full time. Kakuta received the ball wide open in another counterattack and put the ball past Real Betis goalkeeper. The team says farewell to Copa del Rey with a bitter defeat. Now it is time to focus on La Liga.
