Joaquín: “We showed an outstanding attitude”
The winger and Portillo spoke for Betis TV after the match
Joaquín talked with Betis TV to analyse the first victory of the season for Real Betis Balompié. The right winger, one of the best in the match, showed his happiness and outlined the attitude of the team ‘since the first minute’.
Analysis: “The most important thing was the team’s victory and the way we went for the match. We showed great attitude. We tried to put up pressure and win from the first minute, trying to make difficult for Real Sociedad to react. We had to suffer at the end but that’s positive as well, because we’ll have to suffer during this season. If the team knows how to get a victory in this situation is positive.”
Personal performance: “I’ve felt good. I was tired at the end because I couldn’t train much and I’m trying to get my pace back. But I’m happy. I think I did well in the first half, participating and enjoying what I’ve always tried to do: playing football.”
Connection with Rubén Castro: “I’m happy because the target is the team to win. Having strikers like Rubén Castro and Molina, the ones that played today, that move around well and are able to receive and score it’s an advantage.”
Support from the fans: “Spectacular. I already explained during my presentation, there are a lot of feelings involved. It’s a huge pride at a personal level, not only as a professional. It’s not easy to receive this huge support, this love and hear all the people when I was substituted. That’s what I’m proud the most. It all goes away in the end, but I’ll remember this for a long time.”
Also Portillo praised the work done by the team: “We’ve suffered until the end. We knew that things were going to be complicated when Petros was sent off. But we did a great job and the points stay here today.”
Second half: “It was about not conceding a goal and trying to counterattack. Logically they would have ball possession because of the extra man but we did a great job and this is the path to follow.”
Fans: “They were amazing. We can only thank them because they were that extra we needed in the final minutes.”
