MATCH REPORT | A draw that should have been more (1-1)

The referee did not give a penalty even if he checked the footage when it evident

Real Betis Balompié got a point today in their visit to RC Celta de Vigo. The team was trailing in half time but improved a lot in the second half and managed to tie in the last stage of the game. However, the result could have been different, as the referee changed his decision of conceding Betis a penalty. He checked the VAR footage and it was obvious it was a penalty.

The first chance of the game came soon, in the second minute, with a free kick from canals that went wide. The first minute were of control by Betis, but Celta began to shake off the pressure.

After fifteen minutes, everything was even on the pitch. Both sides were displaying a strong pressing and high intensity. Celta struck first, though. A free kick that Nolito scored as Robles had set the wall in the wrong position. Betis tried to react in a corner kick a few moments later, but the header by Guido was saved by Blanco.

Betis were looking for the tie before the break, but the lads were lacking clarity in their decisions. The team started well after half time and had several approaches in the first minutes.

In the 68 minute, Guardado was brought down inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot. He was told by the VAR room to check the action and he did so, changing his decision. However, the replay shows that it was a clear penalty. A few minutes later, Feddal scored. The VAR again took a long time to check the play, but the goal finally stood.

Betis went for the win in the final minutes but could not score.
