MATCH REPORT | A great Green and White night (2-1)

The team deservedly beat Real Madrid

A great Real Betis Balompié beat Real Madrid tonight in a great match. The team completely overshadowed their rival in the first half and took lead with a screamer from Sidnei. However, the visitors tied from the penalty spot just before half time. The Green and Whites started well in the second half and had many options to score, but had to wait until the end to close the score.

Betis started well in the game, pressing strong and trying to attack from the beginning. A wide effort from Loren was the first occasion of the game. Step by step, Madrid mover forward and had a chance through Vinicius, whose effort was off target. Everything was quite even halfway the first half, though Betis had the ball for longer.

Bartra had the best so far with a header from close range that went over the bar. The game kept going on and Betis kept improving. Fekir produced a great volley that forced Courtois to make a phenomenal save. Then, the goal finally came. Sidnei got a loose ball inside the area and put the ball in the top right corner. However, Madrid tied just before half time with a penalty scored by Benzema.

The game did not seem to change in the first minutes of the second half. Betis had the ball more and was trying to attack constantly. Joaquín had the first. The skipper dribbled Courtois but his finishing was cleared on goal by a defender. These were the best minutes of the Green and Whites, pushing forward with high intensity. Madrid tried then to make a push, and Mendy gave the fans a fright with a shot to the crossbar.

After a wonderful personal play by Fekir, in which he made a magic dribble on Militao, Guardado finished with a volley that went millimeters off the top corner. The next one came through Tello after a good combination with Fekir and Canales, but his cross was not reached by Loren. And the goal finally came. Guardado stole the ball in a great interception and gave a pass to a run by Tello. The winger finished well in front of Courtois.

Nerve-wracking final minutes at Villamarín, with loads of tension on the pitch. Madrid were pushing looking for the draw, and Betis were defending strong. The team held on and got three wonderful points.
