MATCH REPORT | Defeat against RCD Espanyol (1-0)

The team returns home empty handed

Real Betis Balompié could not get points in their visit to Cornellá. In an even game, RCD Espanyol took the win with a goal by Braithwaite just before half time.

The homes side started strong and hit the crossbar in the fifth minute. After a dubious start, the Green and Whites started gaining confidence and controlled the game. The first was for Aitor Ruibal, but his effort was saved.

The best one, though, was for Borja Iglesias with a header saved by the keeper in a sensational stop. Just before halftime, Braithwaite gave the locals the lead.

After the break, the game continued in the same fashion and Espanyol scored again, but the goal was ruled out for a previous foul on Ruibal. In spite of Betis having the ball and trying more, they couldn't create clear chances. A free-kick shot by Canales was, in fact, the best opportunity.

Espanyol had a really clear chance but Puado missed into an empty net. Luiz Henrique responded in the other end with a shot that went wide. In the final minutes, Betis had their opponent under siege but could not score.
