MATCH REPORT | Defeat in Mestalla (2-1)
Loren scored for the team in the added time
Real Betis Balompié continued today with the negative streak after losing at Mestalla Stadium against Valencia CF. The team played well and were better than their rival for most of the game but, as it happening lately, made punctual mistakes that cost the points. Valencia got the lead through Gameiro and Parejo, both in the second half. In the injury time, Loren scored for the Green and Whites.
The game began with high pace and intensity but with a lot of imprecision from both sides. In one of them, Fekir stole the ball inside the opposite area and almost scored. Gayà replied on the other end almost by accident, when his cross curved and hit the crossbar.
Joaquín tried with a good free-kick that Cillessen deflected on the goal line. Betis were now on the ball for longer and pushing forward. Fekir had a good one after a great personal play, but the Frenchman found the side netting. A controversial play happened ten minutes before half time when Borja Iglesias was clearly brought down by Wass inside the area, but neither the referee nor the VAR saw a penalty. Just before the end, Gayà produced a strong shot from outside the box that force Robles to make a good save.
The second half began with the best chance, and it was for Betis. Fekir received a pass inside the area but his shot hit the crossbar. However, Valencia hit first. Gameiro finished a play with a curved effort from outside the box that went in after a deflection on the post. The next chance was for Guedes in a quick counterattack, but this time Robles saved it. Edgar almost tied the game in a corner kick, sending his finishing slightly wide.
Fekir tried again from the edge of the box but his shot didn't put Cillessen in trouble. Betis wanted to attack more at this point while Valencia waited in defence to launch counterattacks. Aleñá did not find the goal after a corner-kick. In fact, it was Parejo who scored in another counterattack for the home side. In the added time, Loren got the ball inside the area and scored, but it was too late and Betis lost another chance.
