Setién: “There’s not much to say after a result like this”
Press conference
Quique Setién addressed the media at Ciutat de Valencia Stadium after the match afainst Levante UD.
Do you still feel strong?: "Of course. We have gotten here because we know how to come back after situations like this. I've been my whole life in this and I know how this works. These moments are not easy but we know how football is. I know how much it changes and when you're an optimistic you always think things are going to get better. The situation is tough. After this hard and unexpected defeat, because we came here with the idea of adding points and taking a burden off our shoulders, the target becomes even harder to achieve but we will keep fighting as long as it is mathematically possible."
How is the team's esteem right now?: "Your self-esteem is the motor of everything. Even before this match, with the two defeats we had and the atmosphere around, it wasn't easy. We were feeling it in these two days we had to prepare this match. It could be seen that the psychological state was down. We could it see in the first minutes of the game. How difficult it was for us to play, to make passes. We had frightened players, without confidence or tension. The first goal was like a huge burden because we know how difficult it's for us to come back. And the team didn't manage to recover. We lack the fluidity we had in other games when we lose but we played much better than today. Nothing went our way today. And this is the situation we're in. We have to accept it and face the four games we have left. We are hosting Espanyol on Monday and we'll try to recover."
Possible dismissal: "That's not for me to answer. I'm convinced I'm going to continue. It's true the Club is in a difficult situation because we are under a lot of pressure, but we've talked about this before. We all want things to go better but sometimes projects and expectations don't meet. After this result there's not much to say. We have confidence in what we do. Now is difficult to see but I think this project has a future."
Would you be surprised if you were sacked tomorrow?: "Of course I would."
Would you understand it?: "I assume every situation with humbleness. It's the same why I don't get too excited when things are working out well. I understand that I have to accept all this. Between player and coach, I've played around 1,000 matches. I know how football works. It's true that this is not pleasant and I understand that the majority of the fans are criticising the coach because we are not getting results. I'm prepared for this. I'd like to things to be analysed beyond the score. But I know what it is and how it works. I'm still excited about this team and this project. I feel mentally strong to continue and move forward, even if we go through difficult times like this. I'd keep going. However, I don't own the Club and I don't make the decisions."
