Setién: “This victory is an important boost”

Press conference

Quique Setién addressed the media today at Montilivi Stadium after the game against Girona FC.

Match analysis: "The final minutes were distressing because it would have been an absolute disgrace to  have left the three points escape after the game we played. In the first half we dominated comfortably and we should had gone to half time on the lead. This is football. Pau has made two astonishing saves but we had so many chances. Today should be a turning point. Scoring a goal after missing a few is a relief. I'm happy because the players performed really well tonight. They played when they had to and they defended really well too."

How important is the victory?: "This victory represents many things. We have a demand to meet. It's our own duty. Last year we made a great season, maybe a bit irregular. Regarding results, this year we are not having the reward to what we do, but we've kept a straight line in the way we play and the chances we create. This victory will be useful to bring calm in general and also to some players who were a bit nervous. This is an important step because we add three points in a very complicate stadium. We'll try to keep on playing well and, therefore, the wins will come. Today is an important day for the team, also for Francis and Loren."

The team has not conceded goals away: "That's another thing we have to value. It's not easy to keep clean sheets in such difficult places. We have improved a lot in this sense. The high pressure we used made us steal many balls on their half of the pitch, in the second half as well. When we don't allow the rival to get to our box, we get calm and we keep doing it better. However, in the final minutes we had to fall back and defend in our box. And we did it good, too. Sometimes you need a bit of luck, as all the other teams got lucky against us in the previous games."

How did you prepare the game?: "We try to analyse the rival. Portu and Borja are two great players. In general, we minimised their whole team. When they don't have the ball, every player suffers and looks he's doing nothing. They didn't have the ball because we took it from them but they defended really well. We prepared this game thoroughly. We know this team. It worked. We were good in defence and had accuracy on the other end."
