Van der Vaart: “I’m ready to play”
“I’m very happy, my ankle is much better and I’ve been training well for a week now”, stated the Dutch player
Rafael Van der Vaart has spoken before the media on the pitch in Benito Villamarín Stadium after receiving the keys for his new Mercedes Benz car, sponsor brand that has sealed a renewal contract with Real Betis Balompié.
Do you feel ready to play?: “I’m very happy, my ankle is much better and I’ve been training well for a week now. I’ve been two months without playing and I’m eager to start.”
How did you see the team?: “The first match was very good. The team was really strong against Villarreal CF and created many chances. I think that’s the way we should play. With Real Madrid was a different match, we know it’s the best team in La Liga. Now against Real Sociedad we must win.”
Has Pepe Mel tried to correct things from the last match?: “Yes, of course, because we can lose, but not doing it 5-0. The manager talks a lot with us and we are training tactics a lot. I think we are ready to face Real Sociedad.”
More competition in the attacking line: “We have top quality players. Joaquín for me is the best, and Van Wolfswinkel is a great striker. Good signings for Real Betis.”
What can Van Wolfswinkel bring?: “He is a striker who can score a lot of goals and moves around well. I think he can score many goals this season.”
Have you spoken with Joaquín?: “Yes, a lot. He is a very open person and I have good relationship with him. I’m proud that now we are playing together and let’s hope we can win many matches.”
In which position will you play this season?: “I can play in different positions. I couldn’t train much in the last four weeks and now I need to get better at a physical level, but I think I’m ready to play. Where? That’s for the manager to decide.”
Fitness level: “I’m a bit afraid because of my ankle. Nevertheless, today’s session has been the best for me so far, no problem at all. Now I need to get my confidence back.”
Conversation with Van Wolfswinkel: “Yes, we spoke before he signed and I told him about the Club and the city. He’s lived in Portugal and life is pretty similar there, so I think he’s happy to be here.”
Holland national team: “I didn’t see the last match and I don’t like to talk when I don’t play. After losing 3-0 in Turkey we are in trouble to qualify for the Euros but there are still options. A small chance but you never know in football.”
How do you feel before your possible first match with Real Betis?: “I’m always a bit nervous before every game, but I’m eager to start, to play in our Stadium in front of our fans. Let’s hope we can win.”
