Van Wolfswinkel: “It will be great if we win three out of the next four games. We are in good line and everything’s possible”
“A lot has changed with the arrival of Merino. We are getting results and that’s good for us”, says the Dutch striker
Ricky Van Wolfswinkel has given a press conference today at Luis del Sol Training Centre just after the training session. Betis number ‘9’ has given his impressions about the team’s performance in the last few games and the prospects for the remaining of the season.
Important upcoming month: “Yes, we’re getting better. The results in the last few weeks are very important for our position in the table. We’ve obtained good results. We need to go on because we need more points. Step by step.”
Rubén Castro explained that he prefers to play with two strikers: “Me, too, but that’s for the manager to decide. If he chooses to play with two, better. Rubén, Molina, Leandro, and I prefer to play with two strikers.”
Connection with Rubén Castro: “I always like to play alongside him. We have a good connection in the trainings and in actual games, too. I’d like to continue but is the manager who decides whether we play together.”
Damiao’s arrival: “He’s a great player, and also he is a different striker to the rest of us. That’s good for the team. When you have four strikers with different styles, the manager has more options.”
Change of the team with Juan Merino: “It’s different for me as well, not just for the team. The first time I’ve been twice in a row in the starting eleven has been with him. It’s very important for my confidence and for the vibes. A lot has changed with his arrival, we’re getting results and that’s important for the players.”
Lack of goals: “That’s the only thing I’m missing. The assists for Rubén are important, but I’d like to score as well. It’ll be better as long as I keep playing.”
Two goals against Sporting de Gijon in Copa del Rey: “I’d love to repeat that, but it’s a different match. I’d like to play and score twice again.”
Van der Vaart: “The vibes are good with him. He’s really good, skillful and experienced, and I have a good connection with him, both in the trainings and in games. For instance, we saw it in the cup match in Gijon: he gave me a good pass and I scored. We do it a lot in the trainings. He’d like to play and I’d love to play with him. But, again, that’s a manger decission.”
Can Van der Vaart succeed in Real Betis?: “Sure. He’s very good and experienced. He’s been really important in all the teams he’s played. Every team needs a player like Rafa. In my opinion, he’s one of the best in our squad.”
Importance of the next month: “It will be great if we win three out of the next four games. We are in good line and everything’s possible.”
Musonda: “He’s a different player. He’s very young, just 19, but he speaks Spanish well. That’s good for Betis because he’s different and shows it in the matches, too. It’s important for him and for us that he continues this way.”
Mentality among the players: “We are a cheerful group. Now, with the good results, we feel even better. It’s normal.”
