Calderón: "There are still a lot of things to improve, but there are very good feelings"

"The importance of the Derby next Thursday could not be greater, every match we play is a final", affirmed the South American coach

After an important victory against Getafe FC (2-0) the Argentine manager appeared before members of the press in the press room at the Benito Villamarín Stadium. With a smile on his face Calderón confirmed the improvement in the team over the last few weeks, whilst stating that the team had to ratify their improvement with continued hard work and in the forthcoming matches. The next duel on the calendar is the derby in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, which is of the 'highest importance' for the Betis manager.

A positive dynamic: “The dynamic of the team has changed. Since the first leg UEFA Europa League match against FC Rubin Kazán we have been improving. There are still a lot of things to improve, but there are very good feelings and an improved dynamic to boot. We have to continue working to grow”.

Calculations for permanence: “We are taking a match at a time. I am not doing any calculations at all. Now we are focussing on Sevilla, then we will have to think about Sunday's match. Whilst there is a mathematical possibility we will keep believing”.

Luis García reclaimed a penalty against Lafita in the first half: “From where I was I don't think it was and my players said they didn't think so either. You can see it on television, but I really didn't think it was a penalty form where I was”.

Will you repeat the line-up against Sevilla FC in the forthcoming matches?: “At the moment all we are thinking about is fielding the best possible team for the next match. Then we shall see how the players are so that they can recover for the next league match. Now we have five days to recover. Those who didn't play will train now on the pitch”.

Rotations for Thursday: “With five days to rest before the next match there will be no need to rotate players. If the players are ok we shall see if there has to be a change, but there is no reason to think that the team will have to change much".

Is the improvement more in morale than in the football?: “There has been an improvement in everything. We can see that the team knows how to compete, works the matches and suffers. 150% of the merit is for the players. I see how much work they put in during the week and then their sacrifice on the field of play. They deserve it and I am happy”.

How important is Thursday's derby?: “It is of the highest importance. Every match Betis plays is a final. We all want to win every match, it doesn't matter what the competition is. We must always compete to the best of our abilities to make our fans happy”.

Leo Baptistao's first goal: “Leo's goal made me very happy. He needed it and so did we. He really wanted to score that goal. Ruben continues his extraordinary continuity of goals".

Did you give N’Diaye more freedom of movement?: “When he plays there we give him more freedom. Sometimes he goes off everywhere and we have to calm him down. Today he wanted to score. As he is so generous serving the team we are really pleased. He plays well wherever he is”.

Will N’Diaye play more in that position?: “basically it will depend on how the rest of his team mates are and how he feels himself. The two fullbacks worked really well, so did Dídac and Juanfran”.

The development of Jordi and Dídac: “Not only did they do well in this match, but they have also done well in recent matches. They work hard and they are humble. I trust them and I think a lot of them. We work on the organisation and tactics as a service for the team. They are probably the best ones to talk about the degree of confidence I have been able to transmit. There never has been, or is there and discarded players. My feelings for them all are the same”.

Which players will you recover for Thursday?: “Molina is not 100% yet, but he is training normally. Verdú and Chuli still need a bit more work”.

At halftime did you talk about going for more than three goals to get a better goal average against Getafe CF: "Some people spoke about that. All I wanted was for us to go out there again as if the score was 0-0 and to try to score a goal without thinking about anything else. I don't like calculating everything. When the match is over you have to do it but not during a match, just thinking about not conceding any goals and scoring as many goals as possible”.
