The President of Real Betis Balompié accompanied Pepe Mel in his farewell as manager of the club from Heliopolis. With words of thanks he took the floor first to explain the reasons for the decision: "The Board of Directors, after careful consideration, has decided to terminate Pepe Mel's contract as the Real Betis coach. It is a sad and painful decision, the sole purpose of which is to change the negative dynamic of results experienced by the team after many matches. On behalf of the Board I would like to express our enormous gratitude for the four years, almost, that Pepe Mel has been training the team and all his work and sacrifice for the team. I have known Pepe Mel since his arrival at the club and together we have experienced some of the greatest moments since we took over the running of the club. However, there was no other solution available, we wanted to change the dynamic of the club. This is football, and the only decision open to us was this purge in order to improve the team. We can only be grateful to Pepe for the work he has done and that of Roberto Rios and David Gomez. This will always be your club, Pepe. Our doors are always open to you. In football results are the determining factor, but I am sure you will return to Real Betis Balompié. Thank you for everything you have done to date in times of extreme difficulty for this club".
