Real Betis get a point at La Romareda (2-2)

Rennella put Real Betis ahead, Willian José levelled off a penalty 1-1; an own goal by Cabrera gave Velázquez's team the advantage again and Pedro equalised

Real got a point in an away match. Julio Velázquez's team went ahead twice, but Zaragoza's drive in a rugged match allowed Víctor Muñoz's team to equalise in a close match in which Adán took centre stage in injury time getting his hand to the ball to make a save.

The reappearance of Xavi Torres and Casado's return to the starting eleven were the novelties in Julio Velázquez's line-up at La Romareda, in which there was also some tweaking of the tactical formation. The manager opted for a 4-3-3 with Rubén starting on the left wing, Kadir on the right and Rennella in the centre.

The match was the perfect opportunity to reduce the gap with the teams at the top of the standings but the match, as was expected, was very close. Whist Zaragoza trusted their offensive moves to their wingers and Borja Bastón, Real Betis sought to tip the balance of the match with the quality of their attacking trio. This time it was Kadir who put in a great performance playing a very complete match.

The mutual respect was patent but in the first half the balance tipped towards the team that knew how to make the most of their rival's errors. The match started with incidents. The Zaragoza fullback, Rubén, was injured and Víctor Muñoz rebuilt his squad putting Cabrera in the fullback position and bringing Diego Rico on to take over the left wing.

The visiting team had the first chance to go ahead on the scoreboard. Kadir lifted the ball so it would reach Rubén, who in turn chipped it to try to beat Whalley, but his shot was cleared by Cabrera with a header. Zaragoza's reply came just ten minutes later. A great heel by Willian José, which left Eldin alone against Adán, who managed to get a foot to the ball and avert the danger.

Betis was missing the fact that the ball was not in the midfield more, but an attentive Xavi Torres intercepted a bad goal kick by Whalley to pass it on to Rennella who controlled the ball with his chest and his left-footed crossing shot was beyond the reach of the goalkeeper from Aragon. Three minutes later the Franco- Italian could have widened the gap when he received a pass in the area from an omnipresent Kadir. The forward got his toe to it but his shot struck the post and the rebound caught Rubén Castro wrong-footed. He was not able to shoot but he did fall in the area, which led to the referee booking the player from the Canary Islands.

Betis were able to hold on to their lead until half time but in the second half, just like in Pamplona, their rival struck first. An unfortunate piece of play in which Willian José's shot came into contact with Jordi's allowing Zaragoza to level the match. Despite the fact that it was involuntary the referee pointed to the penalty spot, which was transformed by Willian José. Fate, however, was to favour Betis when Cabrera cleared a centre pass by Casado in to his goal. 1-2.

Zaragoza were not broken and increased the pressure. Pedro got the prize. He converted a centre from the left wing into a great goal controlling it with his chest first, then with his knee before beating Adán.

The duel turned to mayhem with a constant exchange of blows. There were scoring opportunities for both teams but in injury time Adán was to save the day when he got a formidable glove to the to a shot by Borja Bastón which would have given the three points to the home team.
