Presentation press conference
Real Betis Balompié new head coach, Quique Setién, has been presented today at Benito Villamarín Stadium press room. The new manager has addressed the media accompanied by the chairman, Ángel Haro, and the sports vice-chairman, Lorenzo Serra Ferrer.
Before answering the questions by the media, Setién has begun with a thank you speech. “I want to thank the chairman and the football director for giving me the chance to manage such a big club. I’m conscious of the responsibility I take, I know where I am coming. I know what Betis means. I take full responsibility from now on. I understand football from the ball possession. I have a relationship with the players based on mutual understanding, I still feel like a player. I think that is key to get the best from every footballer. I want them to believe that what we are going to propose id the best for everyone. All the players like to play football. We have to develop that, to feel it. I’m, in deed, very excited. I think it won’t take a lot to convince them.”
Afterwards, he answered the questions by the media.
Current squad: “There are things in every squad that you like and some other you don’t like that much, but I’ve always believed that you really get to know a player when you work with him. I’ve just arrived, I don’t have a deep knowledge about many things. What I know is that our ideas and the ones of the directors has to be the same. Regarding if these players can play beautiful football, when I arrived at Lugo, in Segunda B, everyone said that it was impossible to play nicely in that division. Then, you all saw how that team played. You can play nicely with all the players. It is true that depending on the players you have, you can make it better or worse. I believe in what I do. I know the team will play well. The players are going to be happy, their performance rate is going to increase. Betis is going to be identified with a playing style, I can guarantee it.”
Adán and Rubén Castro: “They are two very important players in the squad and the Club. They have contract with us and will continue being central parts of this team. I don’t think otherwise.”
Dani Ceballos: “Obviously, the Club and I think that he is a key player. He could be the centre point of any football project because he is amazing. You can see it when he plays. I’ll try to convince him that he’s still very young, that he can continue growing, improving here.”
Reasons to come: “There many factors involved. The first one is that the Club has shown sincere and serious interest in me. It hasn’t been the first time, also. Another one is that I know how these fans are, what the feel about football. I know what they like. The dimension of this Club cover all my expectations. There wasn’t much to think about.”
Sergio León: “He was already on one of the lists we have about interesting players. He has grown a lot recently. I’ll be pleased if he ends up here.”
