6000 come to the presentation of the club's new kits at the Benito Villamarín Stadium
The fans, excited about the new season, gave Antonio Adán an ovation and called for Ruben Castro to stay with the Club
Last night saw a wave of Betis sentiment at the Benito Villamarín Stadium, the venue chosen for the presentation of the team's strip for the 2014/15 season. A total of 6000 Betis fans congregated on the stands at the green-and-white Stadium to show their support for the squad led by Julio Velázquez. They were represented by Antonio Adán, José Antonio Caro, Álex Martínez and Rubén Castro who were the models for the new team strips. The new league competition, which will have of it as its first and only objective the team's return to the First Division, will count on the support of their fans who once again shows their greatness and their loyalty. Proof of the Betis fans unwavering faith and hope was the ovation by Antonio Adán, who despite having only defended the Real Betis for a few months has become one of the standard-bearers for the fans. "We hope it will be the uniform that will see us promoted. I have to thank the fans for their affection, despite the short time I've been with the club. It inspires me to keep working to get the club back where it belongs. It fills me with pride, firstly to wear the Betis shirt and secondly because it is one that was worn by the legendary club player Esnaola”, declared the goalkeeper from Madrid.
The same was equally true for Rubén Castro, who received the loudest applause when he stepped out onto the field of play to present the third uniform. The forward from the Canary Islands, whose goalscoring abilities will be vital for the team to achieve its objective, bore witness to the enormous affection the crowd at Heliopolis has for him, the stadium roared with the chant of"Stay Rubén".
For his part, Álex Martínez, who has returned from Real Murcia to join the Betis ranks highlighted that “Betis is a whole different world. It is an honour to play here. I came here to help out the team and get it back into the First Division. The fans deserve their team to be in the First Division. We will put every effort into making promotion a reality”. A statement that was met by cheers at the Benito Villamarín Stadium, there was a spectacular atmosphere which became emotional when Hugo Salazar sang the Real Betis Balompié anthem accompanied by the 6000 fans that were present at the stadium. Finally, the actor Antonio Garrido, a committed Betis fan, said "You can only be a Betis fan", whilst José Antonio Caro donned the second strip that he will wear next season as a member of the first-team squad, recognising that he was very excited about "working to get Betis back into the First Division".
It was a green-and-white night that should launch the team on their long and demanding league campaign requiring their full commitment to get the team promoted to the top tier of Spanish football. The link between the team and the fans has been confirmed with an act like this. They will take their first steps next Sunday when the motor of the Betis team will start for the 2014/15 season as that is the day that the pre-season programme is scheduled to start.
