MATCH REPORT | Vital victory (2-1)
A goal from Fekir in the last minute gives Betis three golden points
Win or win. That was the only target in the game last night. A victory that would help the team get their smile back after two weeks in the relegation zone. And it happened.
The match began with news in the lineup, as Academy player Ismael made his first with the first team. After the kick off, Betis started with well with a good combination between Fekir and Canales that ended with the latter delivering a cross from the baseline that Emerson smashed into the net. The perfect way for the right back to celebrate his recent call up to the Brazil senior national team. However, the goal woke Celta up and the visitors began to have the ball more and attack.
Even though Celta were more in control at this point, Betis could have doubled the lead. A mistake in defence allowed Iglesias to run towards the goal but his effort was deflected wide by the keeper.
This action seemed to be a turning point for Celta, as they completely controlled the math until half time and had several chances, but none of them were clear enough.
The second half started in the same fashion as the first had ended. The away side increased the pace, controlled the ball and had several approaches to the goal defended by Robles. Lobotka tried first from outside the area. Then Suárez and Méndez tried unsuccessfully, and Aidoo hit the post with a header in a corner kick.
It seemed that the goal was close and so it happened. A cross delivered from the right wing was deflected by Borja Iglesias. The referee checked the VAR and whistled for penalty for handball. Aspas scored from the spot.
Betis were overwhelmed by the rival at this point, trying to stop them in every possible way, which provoked many yellow cards for the Green and Whites. It wasn't until after the goal that the team had the first chances of the second half. Emerson sent his shot over the bar, but this action woke the team up and started to get into the match again.
It seemed that it was going to end all square when, in a set play, the ball fell to Fekir inside the area. The Frenchman controlled and produced an accurate shot that found the back of the net. Three golden points that stayed at home.
