The Real Betis Balompié team get a soaking in support of ALS
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a type of motor neurone muscular degenerative disease
At the end of the afternoon training session, the Real Betis Balompié squad got a soaking - all for a good cause, as part of the Ice Bucket Challenge which aims to raise awareness about amyotrohic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Having been nominated by CE Sabadell, the players got together to record this vídeo in support of the cause, in which they were drenched by three famous Andalusians: the bullfighter Manuel Jesús 'El Cid', the singer Hugo Salazar y Susana Díaz, president of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
ALS is a degenerative disease which causes progressive muscular paralysis. The disease is invariably fatal. According to the Andalusian Association of ALS, the cause of this disease is still not well understood and therefore it is essential that more research is carried out. However, whilst scientific investigation is beneficial, it is also important to provide day-to-day assistance to those suffering from the disease who need help.
The Association offers physiotherapy home visits, psychological counselling after diagnosis, technical support, etc. If you wish to contribute in any way to the Association, click on this link.
