Mel: "We arrived at the match an hour late"

The Betis manager lamented the lack of intensity of the first half

The Real Betis manager, Pepe Mel, lamented the attitude of the team in the first half: "We stepped out onto the field of play having arrived an hour late. Getafe or any First Division team crushes you if you are annulled on the pitch. I've told the players that during the league break, even though we are going to be beating ourselves up, we are going to train and start from scratch. You have to play with the same intensity as the opponent and in the first half we didn't succeed in any of our attempts to recover possession of the ball, high balls or follow-on plays. That makes things difficult. The only way to win in the First Division is with intensity. As they didn't play with intensity in the first half but did in the second, the problem is mine. Now we have to work and put things right".

Mel was asked why Cedrick was not a starter. “I choose the players I believe to be right for each match. The lad works well and played on Thursday in Croatia. We thought it was better to field team mates with fewer match minutes."

The lack of intensity was the main topic of discussion in the press room at the Coliseum. "The problem is mine, I'm the manager and the responsibility is mine. We are playing in three competitions, but those players who are not intense won't play in any of them. As a Betis fan I am ashamed the first half. The match was at seven and we arrived at eight."
