Betis B lost this Saturday against Real Jaén CF 0-2 in their third official fixture of the season in Group IV of the Second Division B, their second consecutive loss at the Luis del Sol Training Centre. The green-and-white team suffered the effectiveness of the visiting team who scored the two goals on their first advances on Javi Montoya's goal.

Real Jaén managed to open the scoring in the second minute of the match. A centre by Sutil from the left wing was headed into the goal by Montero on the far post. A concerted effort by Betis B got them in their rivals area but they lacked the required depth. However, that was not the case for their opponents, once again the visiting team increased their score, this time Pedrito scored in the 19th minute. After the first half an hour of play the green-and-whites had their best scoring opportunity, but Juanma first, then Ignacio Abeledo off the rebound, were not able to beat Toni García. Shortly afterwards, Álvaro González had to be replaced by Isuardi because of discomfort. In the final stages of the first half a powerful crossing shot by Quesada forced Javi Montoya to stretch to make the save.

In the second half Betis B tried to reduce the space between the lines with a clear intention of making a come back. However, a well positioned Real Jaén thwarted all the offensive moves by the Heliopolitan team, they even took advantage of the spaces to create danger. Brian, in the 58th minute, tried to score from inside the area but Javi Montoya was on the alert and avoided the danger. As the minutes went by the visiting team increased their possession of the ball making the most of their advantage. Juan Merino's lads insisted without luck, until the final minutes of the match. Juanma and Dani Ceballos, Betis B's best player in the match, were the authors of the most noteworthy approaches, but in the end the points travelled home with the visiting team.

Juan Merino: “I am convinced that this team will get more”

The Betis B coach, Juan Merino, attended representatives of the media at the end of the match against Real Jaén CF. Merino regretted his team's defeat, emphasising that “the intensity and desire to do things right” of his players was apparent and he expressed his conviction that the “team will get more” as they get more fixtures under their belts.

Opinion: “We knew we were playing against a rival who is a serious contender for the top positions in the league, because of their squad and the way they play. For 20 minutes of the match they were better than we were, they what was required of them and took advantage of their chances. It is true that the goals conceded tested the mettle of our team, but that's because they are young. If this team loosens up and relaxes, which they will, they will be competitive and difficult to beat. In our chat before the match we did the same as we did when we played Cádiz, because they are very similar teams. Although this is not our competition we will go out there to win every match we play”.

Impressions: “They are good, as far as they can be when you lose. Despite this 0-2 defeat in front of a home crowd, the team's intensity and desire to do things right were not lacking, that is very important. The difference was that the other team were superior for 20 minutes of the match and then they knew how to put the match on hold. We had the occasional scoring opportunity, not many, but had we found the back of the net we would be talking about a different match”.

The goals conceded in the first minutes: “It is the result of a lack of experience and youth. Our players are able to do better. We have seen that when they loosen up they are able to construct moves, create danger, be poised and defend well. We lack, particularly at the beginning of a match, mental fortitude from the first whistle. I am convinced this team will go on to better things and that the mistakes we have seen are the result of a lack of experience and they will be corrected”.
