Juan Merino: “The team is eager to please with a second consecutive away victory”
Tomorrow at midday, Betis B will visit the Nuevo Los Cármenes Stadium where they will play Granada CF B in a duel for the points available. The green-and-whites will take on the match with a firm intention to improve on their last league performance in which they lost against Marbella FC. The reserve team's manager, Juan Merino, in declarations to the Club's official website, assured us that his players were “eager to please with a second consecutive away victory, against a great rival who played really well last season in this category”.
The last defeat: “There were individual mistakes but they can all be corrected. We need to find the balance between the offence and defence. In the match against Marbella FC, in terms of offence and the teamwork in starting plays, in my opinion was the most complete match we have played. We were able to create more scoring opportunities. Improvement will be gained from that balance so that our rival cannot do us harm. There were defensive faults which cost us one or two goals, we have to improve”.
The work done during the week: “We have made the most of the recordings of the match. The players are aware that offensively we did well, even our rival's coach recognised that, but we have to defend as a team. In any match there can be an individual defensive mishap, but that should not turn into general unease in the group. We have placed great emphasis on the fact that when we were 1-3 down we were a different team. That situation made us even more uneasy but, despite the result, we must never lose it”.
Granada B: “It is a team that is full of players who have played in the Second Division B or higher. Some of them have been in the first team and the reserves, which is the case with Clifford, a player with a small physique but technically very good. Their two fullbacks are very consistent, as is Uche, who plays just in front of them. The team comprises players with a lot of experience in this category and other younger players who also have experience and others that make this a strong team which can provide players for their first team”.
How do you see the team?: “They are eager to please with a second consecutive away victory against an opponent who played really well in this category last season. We are going to play at a difficult ground against the first of the reserve teams we are going to have to play this season, but is we play like we are able to play then we can win”.
Will you continue with rotations in the starting eleven?: “As the matches go by we will see a more defined team. That is only natural because the team needs that to gain in strength, which is what we are looking for. That does not mean to say that if in one position I have two players who are competing well for that spot that I won't alternate between the two. However if there is a significant difference, or there is at a given moment, I will only field one of them. As with other teams, we are trying to get them to play better, in the knowledge that we are a team whose function is to develop new players”.
Fabián, the last U18 player to get his debut: “We do not let them have their debut just for the sake of it. We have them in the team but if we have doubts as to whether they are going to participate or not, then I prefer them to play as much as possible with Betis U18 A. When they get their chance to have their debut it is because they have that potential”.
Lolo, Mosquera and Hinojosa sidelined
Juan Merino will not be able to count on David Hinojosa for tomorrow's match against Malaga due to physical problems. Consequently, the player from Cadiz is sidelined together with Lolo and Jesús Mosquera, in both cases due to injury.
