Calderón: "The cheerfulness and attitude of the team is what gives me confidence to win"

The green-and-white manager, Gabriel Calderón, held his first pre-match press conference following the conclusion of the morning training session. Calderón analysed tomorrow's match against Celta de Vigo and expressed his satisfaction with the work achieved these past couple of days. "I'm very happy with the response from the players because they have their hopes up, but mostly because of the cheerfulness obtained from the feeling of unity inspired by a common objective".

Congratulations: "I have to thank and congratulate the players who have shown professionalism and willingness to pull this off. It is the manager's responsibility but I congratulate them for having made that change in so little time. We need heroes, half measures are not going to cut it. Tomorrow that change has to be reflected in the result, but without that change it is impossible".

The team: "The most important thing for me is to get their morale back up. I have seen this team play well and it is my responsibility to get them playing at that level again. If new players come then great but the main thing is to recover what we already have".

The change: "I have spoken to them all and I have seen the evidence of cheerfulness. We are on track. In just a few days there has been a change. In order for us to win we need what we have today. With the greatest of respect, tomorrow we are going in search of a good result".

Transfers: "I do not like talking about that, we're focussing on tomorrow's game and that's our priority. There are sure to be players but we don't know who is able to come. I want to recover the players we have and if a good new player comes along I will accept. We are looking for players but at this stage it is not easy and it wouldn't help to bring players just to tick a box".

The cheerfulness: "I think it's widespread. If we didn't have the cheerfulness we have today winning would be unthinkable, let alone a run of victories. It's the first step. If as a result we win, the change will gather pace".

Style of play: "I like to play well when we have possession of the ball, and when we don't we have to suffer and be heroes. We are putting our lives on the line with every ball we play. I'm taking 20 with me, only the injured players are staying behind. We have to do a little of everything. You have to work a match. The attitude must be to go out and win. We have to improve the distance between the lines".

Your arrival: "I'm happy to be back but we have to win. I believe in the team, both how they were on the first day and how they are now. The cheerfulness and attitude the team has now is what gives me a lot of confidence".

Affection amongst the supporters: "Every time I have come back I always said how lucky I was to have that loyalty and affection so long after I had left the Club. The affection is overwhelming. I don't think that would happen in any other country in the world. That is why I say this is where I was happiest. The fans have supported their team, now we have to do something to give them hope. We have to forget about everything else and play like Betis always has. I came back determined to repay the affection of the fans and I would give my life to do that. I want to give something back to the fans. All I would say to them is that the only way forward is through unity, even though they have reasons enough to feel bad. I only ask them to trust us and to support the team because we need it. We have an extraordinary fan base, they only manifest their discontent because they love the Club".

Rubén and Leo: "Leo has a problem; he wasn't playing much and now he is. I asked him to tell me if he wasn't feeling good. He is enthusiastic and wants to do all he can so I have to be very careful because I don't want him the get injured. Rubén needs to play to get his rhythm back but without risking further injury".

Choice for goal: "I know which goalie just as I do with the rest of the team although for me they are all the same. I will start with one set of starters and we shall see how things develop".
