Cejudo: “We must continue in the same way, we can’t relax”
Álvaro Cejudo gave a press conference in Benito Villamarín Stadium after the team’s training session. The winger from Cordoba analysed the upcoming fixture against RC Deportivo de La Coruña and the first matches played by the team.
Is the team in the position you were expecting at the beginning?: “When you start the League in such excitement you don’t want to set a limit for yourself. We knew that the first four matches were going to be against difficult rivals. After two matches playing 45 minutes with a player less, five points taste good. We must continue in the same way, we can’t relax because the upcoming matches will be, at least, as difficult as the previous ones.”
Does the league really start now for Real Betis?: “We can beat any team, and so any team can beat us. We shouldn’t think in a certain position in the table right now, we must go match after match.”
Are you surprised by the team’s performance?: “No, we knew that the new guys are good and experienced players that were going to help the team; and the ones that were already here were going to fight for a spot. It won’t be easy, we’ll go through difficult times and in some matches things are not going to work out as we want, but right now we are quite happy.”
Are the players angry for the two red cards?: “The usual. It’s true that some decisions were a bit rigorous, but some other times we don’t get a booking when we should. I think we’ve been unlucky, but nothing else.”
Velasco Carballo: “I just can say that I have a good relationship with him and his assistants. It’s true that the numbers when he is the ref towards us are not the best, but it must be because of our mistakes, I don’t think he does it on purpose.”
Match against RC Deportivo de La Coruña: “If we win and then we lose two matches in a row we are again in trouble. It’s true that if we win, the point gotten in Mestalla will increase its value. That’ll mean a leap in the table, having eight points, which isn’t bad.”
Is Pepe Mel trying rotations in the squad?: “He has said that he needs us all, that we need to be focused because it’ll be needed.”
Shareholders meeting on the 23rd of September: “It doesn’t affect us much. We are thinking about what we can do in the match. The fans will be paying attention, but I’m sure they’ll come to cheer us as they always do, whatever happens.”
Do you think you could have won in Mestalla with eleven players?: “We were really good in the first half. They had a couple of chances, but that’s normal when you play against a team like Valencia CF. We had chances too. You never what could have happened with eleven plyers. Probably we would have had more chances, but I can’t say what would have happened.”
Your position on the pitch: “The manager choses the options depending on the injuries. I’ll play wherever he needs me, as long as I can play.”
