In Bishop Auckland Real Betis Balompié participated in a project dedicated to the memory of Patrick O´Connell, the man that coached the 1935 League Champions. A group of British and Irish fans are determined to recover the figure of "Don Patricio", the Manchester United captain and manager of a number of clubs in Spain, but his greatest successes were at the Patronato ground.

The Club has participated in this initiative from the start, whose objective is to erect a memorial to O´Connell in the cemetery where he is buried. To do this they are auctioning off shirts that have been signed by players from the clubs. To this end, Real Betis Balompié handed over a shirt signed by their players before today's match against Sunderland to Simon Needham, the president of the Blyth Spartans Betis Fan Club. This fan club in Northumberland, the region where Betis has been based for this stage of the preseason, is taking an active part in the Patrick O´Connell Fund. The Board Members Antonio José Sánchez Pino and Tomás Solano and the director of Institutional Relations, Rafael Gordillo, presented the Northumberland Betis fans with the signed shirt. Real Betis has programmed a series of activities in collaboration with the Patrick O´Connell Fund.
