"There is a great willingness on everybody's part for Rubén to stay", confirmed Alexis
The technical secretary appeared once more before members of the press as a result of Bruno González's signing with the club, who was presented today in the pressroom of the Benito Villamarín Stadium. Alexis explained the different movements that have been made this week aimed at building the new configuration of the squad in readiness to start the pre-season programme on Sunday, 13 July.
Bruno's signing: “We're completely convinced of his ability to reinforce the central part of the defensive line. He has signed for three seasons and it is our objective that this is not his only contract, but to see what his development is as the seasons go by confirming his development as a player. He is a young player so hopefully will be able to watch him for a long time to come”.
Since you came to Betis you have made a commitment to finding a new player for the full-back position: “He is a player I have been watching for a long time now. Probably because he is from the islands I have kept a close eye on him. In order to see how he has developed as a player you only have to look at his statistics. This is a choice I am very confident about. He is a player with ambition and a desire to keep growing. Furthermore, he still has a long way to go. He fulfils all the expectations that we had from the start, that of being a humble player who wants to do something great in football. He possesses ideal qualities to reinforce our defensive line”.
Will any of the other full-backs be let go in the next few days?: “There are a number of situations on the table. We're doing what we have to do to reach a reasonable agreement in some of those situations. Things are going well. Putting situations right in football takes time. Our idea is to keep four fullbacks and one or two other versatile players who can fulfil various functions in the defensive line”.
What will happen with Perquis?: “He has a contract with the Club that doesn't allow for any reduction in salary if the team is relegated. We have spoken with his agent and he is here in Seville. We're going to manage the possibilities between the Club, his agent and the player to see if we can reach a good agreement in the best of conditions for all parties. We are looking at a series of options to see what is the best for us from sporting point of view. We will have the results soon. That is one of the things that is on the negotiating table and we want to clear things up as soon as possible”.
Nosa Igiebor: “We have received offers for the player which we believe do not fall in line with the qualities of this player. He could be interesting for us next season but we have to see to what extent he commits to the project. We are working on different options. Of course he's a great player but in the last two years he hasn't participated much. The situation with the players under contract is a delicate one. We are working very hard to find a solution that is appropriate in this situation”.
Will Dani Paceho be the next reinforcement?: “We are working to incorporate players in the positions that we feel we have more deficiencies. We shall see if we can close any of these negotiations this week. Pacheco would seem to be a desirable player to reinforce our team. We're on it and we will work intensely to see if we can pull this operation off”.
Offers for Juanfran: “There are a lot of rumours, but in reality we don't have any offer on the table with the name of a club or financial offer on it. Juanfran still has a contract with the Club and we shall see what happens in the next few days”.
Interest in Pantic: “It is true that he is a very versatile player, both as a wing back and full-back. He is a player that we have been following and his name is out there but for the moment his name has not been linked with the situation with Juanfran (in terms of possible interest by Villarreal CF to obtain his services). To date we have received no offer for this player”.
Will Rubén Castro stay?: “I have known him since he was born, he is from the same neighbourhood as me in Las Palmas. I have never seen him laid back and natural. His character is different. He's very independent. Yesterday he spoke much more than he usually does. He is a very important player for our project, his presence is particularly relevant. I'm sure that this week we'll find some common ground. It is our intention that he stays with us. I'm sure he has never enjoyed football as much as he has here. We are willing to reach an agreement in which we are all satisfied so that we can enjoy his style of play for some years to come here in Seville. Hopefully it will be sorted out soon”.
