Juan Carlos Garrido and movement
Juan Carlos Garrido has captained this Green-and-white ship for six days now and gradually we are getting to know more about his training methods. Despite having one positive result already under his belt with the King's Cup victory against Lleida Esportiu there are more tests on the horizon; Rijeka in the Europa League, for which the team already has its pass to the next round, and the vitally important league match against Real Sociedad. Nacho mentioned in his press conference that work with the ball was one of the most significant aspects of the training sessions. The players are clearly perfectly willing to adapt to the new premises the coach wishes to instil in his team. In his previous teams the Valencian coach has always wanted to put gamesmanship first and is characterised by his offensive style; however, his tactical demands on the defence have a definite military air. In the training sessions he commands, corrects, instructs, motivates and above all works the players very intensely. There is no down time in his training session which last just over 90 minutes. Even the wind down of an exercise is done on the run. Garrido continues to transmit this even in his team talks. All his explanations, whether they be individual or in group, occur on the move. It is his way of capturing the attention of his audience. He has had many such conversations in the short time he has been the Betis coach and they are always in the same style, with gestures movement and intensity. Whatever is required to transmit his demands on his players in the shortest time possible. After days intensely feeding his players with information since the King's Cup fixture, Garrido has given them a day off today. Tomorrow the squad will return to work in preparation for the UEFA Europa League and the national league.
