MATCH REPORT | A great comeback (3-1)
Real Betis Balompié left the three points tonight at Benito Villamarín in the best performance of the team so far in the season. The Green and Whites managed to come back after an early goal from Levante UD with a brace from Loren and the first goal as a Betis player from Borja Iglesias. The team also left moments of great football.
The first five minutes were of Betis absolute control, trying to attack and build up. The first chance was in the third minute, with a header from Iglesias that went over the bar. However, it was Levante the team that hit first. A long ball to the back of the defence and lack of communication between Mandi and Robles that Hernani used to make a good finish. Betis tried to react and Álex Moreno made a good run on the left, but his cross was missed by Joaquín.
The next one came on the other side with a cross from Barragán that Iglesias finished wide. Betis kept trying, but the players were lacking mobility and struggle to break the pressing from the opponent. When they did, they created danger, though. In this way came the next one, the best so far for the team. Moreno crossed the ball and Loren shot, but the ball hit Iglesias when it was going in. Tough luck.
Guardado forced Aitor to make a good save and Canales shot wide from outside the box a couple of minutes later. Finally, in the added time of the first half, the team found their reward. Joaquín delivered a cross to the heart of the box and Loren headed to the post. He got the rebound and did not miss this time.
The second half began and Levante made a change. Just after the start, Canales had a great chance, but he missed the target in a good position. Morales had a great opportunity ij the following play, but he headed the ball over the bar. A frantic beginning of the second half that got even more so when, three minutes in, Loren made his second following an assist from Joaquín.
The team did not stop here and continued attacking but with more calm now. Levante also wanted to do so and Hernani almost scored his second. It seemed that the away team wanted to press more and advanced their lines. However, it was Betis who stroked again. A phenomenal play on the right between Canales and Joaquín and the captain produced a low cross that Iglesias smashed into the net.
Levante had a couple of good chances, both in headers, from Morales and Mayoral, but none of them scored. Lainez had the last of the match, but he missed the target.
