Garrido's chats with Rubén

The team needed him, and they still do. When Rubén Castro returned to the field of play it was almost as if he had jumped off the stretcher and went back into the fray. The Canarian's injury occurred during the pre-season on English soil. This injury has been a continuous nightmare for all involved as the player has not been 100% fit with the rest of his team mates since then. As the player was not able to complete the pre-season preparation it is only at this stage of the season that the striker is feeling better. He is starting to perform well and he is becoming leaner and faster with each training session.

Garrido knows that the forward is the keystone in this Betis. He knows that when this forward with the 24 dorsal is feeling good he can tip the balance in a game. Since his arrival at the club he has taken a keen interest in the player's condition. Before, during and after each session, asking how it was for him and about the feelings he had had. Although the Valencian coach has time for all the players and has had similar chats to other members of the team. There was a clear example last Monday at the open training session at the Benito Villamarín Stadium. A penalty was awarded to Rubén's team which he himself took. Andersen saved the penalty. Ruben began to feel sorry for himself but he hardly had time to look up to the sky before Garrido was next to him giving encouragement. The coach wants him to be important for the team. He wants him to feel important. When he arrived he had several talks with the captains in which he wanted the forward to be present. The coach wants his player to regain the confidence to play good games and start his scoring streak.
