MATCH REPORT | Defeat at Villamarín (0-2)

Real Betis Balompié got tonight their second loss in a row. The team was beaten by Villarreal CF, that scored their two goals in the first half. To make matters worse, Nabil Fekir was sent off just before half time.

The first chance of the game came early, just after three minutes, with a shot by Trigueros that Robles sent wide. Two minutes later, the referee pointed to the spot following a tackle by Bartra on Bacca. Gerard Moreno did not miss the penalty.

Terrible start for the Green and Whites, who were trying to get their composure back. Fifteen minutes into the game, Betis scored, but the goal was disallowed for offside. However, it was Anguissa who had scored an own goal, not a Betis player. Betis had started to play better and were constantly attacking now. But Villarreal struck again in a counterattack poorly defended.

Bartra got really close to cut the lead with a header that went millimeters wide. And, on the other end, Bartra was protagonist again when he cleared a shot over the goal line. The best in the whole first half for Betis came through Fekir. The French dribbled three defenders and produced a shot that almost went in.

Fekir was in the spotlight before the break when he saw two yellow cards in two minutes, leaving his teammates with one man down.

The second half began with one change in Real Betis, as Juanmi replaced Bartra. The team had the hard task of coming back with just ten men. On their side, Villarreal were comfortable on the pitch.

The visitors were displaying a control style, moving the ball around with no rush. Not many chances happened for several minutes, until the last ten minutes, when many came. Bacca and Cazorla, in two consecutive chances, sent their efforts wide. Joaquín tried from distance on the other end, but missed the target. Alcácer headed wide a great cross from Chukwueze.

Joel made a good save to a shot from Ontiveros and Cazorla hit the crossbar in the last chance of the game.
