MATCH REPORT | Injustice in Getafe (1-0)
Three days after being eliminated by Rayo Vallecano in Copa del Rey, Real Betis returned to Madrid with the target of continuing with the positive streak in LaLiga. The rival was Getafe, a team well placed in the table.
A bout between two opposite playing styles as it could be seen in the first half. Betis wanted to use a more elaborate approach, while the men managed by Bordalás displayed a more conservative identity. This made the Green and Whites to control the possession while the opposition looked the defensive order. Thanks to this control, Betis began to have many clear chances.
Fekir had the first with a shot from outside the box that went wide. Eight minutes later, Canales tried after a counterattack that Soria deflected. The best one of the first half, came later, when Bartra headed a free kick delivered by Canales and hit the post. Near the end, Fekir tried to lob the ball over the keeper but the ball went over the bar.
Getafe also had one chance before the break with a free kick from Damián Suárez that Robles deflected wide. The lack of accuracy in the finishing made the game go goalless into half time.
Then, the scandal began. We could talk about everything that happened in the second half. About how Getafe leveled the game up with high pressing and neutralized Betis' control. But it all seems worthless when the referee did not want to see a clear handball by Ángel inside the area. But he did not hesitate when the ball hit in Álex Moreno's arm just by the shoulder. In that moment, VAR decided it was time to act. Funny. Penalty and Ángel scored from the spot. Another episode of this double criteria the VAR is showing this season.
