MATCH REPORT | Real Betis gets one point at Vallecas (1-1)
Real Betis travelled to Vallecas to face Rayo Vallecano after the international break. The target was to get the three points and continued clinched to the fight for Europeran spots. In front, the Green and Whites had a team with a new manager in charge, as Paco Jémez had returned to the team from Madrid.
The first chance was for Rayo just after the start with a cross from the left that Medrán did not reach for millimetres. Seven minutes later, Moreno, first, and then De Tomás had two really good occasions, but Pau López responded superbly to them. The latter did find the back of the net after the fist half an hour. The striker received a cross from the left and tapped the ball in with a good first touch. Real Betis had struggled throughout the whole first half and the rival had had all the few chances that occurred.
In the first stage of the second half, the game continued in the same way. Rayo Vallecano were pushing and displaying a high pressing. Betis could not move the ball well. In this way, De Tomás had the second of the afternoon with a header following a corner kick, but the ball went wide. Medrán tried from distance a few minutes later and could not find the target either.
The best so far came later for De Tomás, who, alone in front of López, shot wide. After that play, the home team started to stumble and Betis began to get closer to the opposite box. For the first time, the team seemed more dangerous than the rival. In this way, after a good play from the team, Canales passed the ball to Carvalho. The Portuguese waited for the right moment and assisted Tello, who put the ball in the back of the net with a curled effort. The goal spurred the team forward in search of the three points. Tello tried with a free kick that went just over the bar.
However, Rayo had a couple of chances in counterattacks, as Betis were now in control, but none of them dangerous enough. The last of the match was for Betis, but Canales sent a free-kick straight into the wall.
In the end, the team got one point in the first of the ten finals the team has until the end of the season.
