Real Betis will open their pre-season tour against Liverpool FC in Pittsburgh
Real Betis will face Liverpool FC on the 26th of July at the Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. This match, with a time schedule yet to be confirmed, will open the American tour with a visit to the city of Pennsylvania. The team will then travel to San Diego (California), where they will face Manchester United on the 31st of July at the Snapdragon Stadium.
This will be Real Betis' first meeting with Liverpool FC since the two sides met in the UEFA Champions League in 2005/06. In fact, Real Betis made their debut in the group stage of the continental competition against the Reds at the Estadio Benito Villamarín in a match that ended in a 2-1 win for the visitors. In the match played at Anfield, the game ended in a goalless draw (0-0). Previously, the two teams met in another friendly, specifically in the semi-finals of the City of Marbella Trophy on the 14th of August 1982, also with a victory for the British team (0-2).
The pre-sale of tickets will start on Wednesday the 10th of April from 16:00 (Spanish time) and tickets will be available for purchase on this link.
The match will be another demanding pre-season test ahead of the start of the season against another of the giants of world football, Premier League champions on 19 occasions and European champions on 6 others.
Ben Latty, Liverpool's commercial director, valued highly this new summer fixture for his team in the United States: "Adding Pittsburgh to our pre-season tour schedule is a great way to start our eagerly anticipated return to the USA. We were delighted to quickly sell out our fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester United on this tour and are equally excited to be able to offer our supporters in the States another opportunity to see Liverpool FC play. Real Betis will come with a strong squad and it's going to be a great occasion in another iconic setting, in another fantastic US city."
On the other hand, Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcon stressed the importance of this tour opener against a strong opponent: "No doubt, this game excites us for a set of different reasons," said Real Betis' CEO Ramon Alarcon. "Playing against a great club like Liverpool FC is a chance for us to measure our potential. This match brings back memories of our debut in the UEFA Champions League during the 2005/2006 season and the amazing atmosphere we experienced both at the Benito Villamarin Stadium and Anfield Stadium. Additionally, both clubs share common values and a wide fan base with a strong feeling towards our colours. It will be nice to meet again in Pittsburgh after 19 years."
