Velázquez: "For a team that has been relegated it is vital for the them to start with a victory"

Julio Velázquez analysed the match in the press room at the Creu Nova Alta Stadium. The manager highlighted the effort put in by the team and was very happy with their attitude. “I am very happy with the victory and the three points obtained. When a team has just been relegated it is vital for them to start with a victory, in terms of morale. Generally that is true if you look at the statistics. I am very happy with the way the match went too. It was a match we should have won with a greater goal difference. But in the last few minutes... well we are human and the other team is also a factor. We shouldn't have conceded any goals. Other than that, it wouldn't be fair to analyse the match based on the last five minutes. We have to look at it as a whole, we were the best team, impressive. I am very satisfied. When a team has been relegated it is vital for the squad to get three points in the first fixture. You have to be cool, collected and coherent. One has to be optimistic and look at the match as a whole. We lived in our rivals half and when we were not in possession of the ball all the players were implicated”.

The final minutes of the match: “It would not be fair for me to focus on the closing stages. We played a great match. There was wonderful synergy with the fans. The team worked well and they felt comfortable. We worked well enough to have scored more goals. If we have failed in that respect it is my fault. It would be incongruous to place greater store in that over the first 85 minutes".

N’Diaye as a substitute: “That was the only sensible option. We did not know that he was available until one in the afternoon. His preseason training has been atypical, he is in good form but we will have to take it little by little. We could not have made him a starter”.

Lolo Reyes and Xavi Torres: “They deserve all the accolades. Superman does not exist, but Lolo Reyes has been training normally with the rest of the group for two weeks now. He didn't hold out right up to the end but he is a phenomenon. He gave everything he had. So did Xavi Torres. Given the situation we were in during the preseason we have had to take advantage of him. He worked well. Now we have Alfred and we can share out the load in terms of match minutes. With each day that goes by he is working perfectly. He was not able to train for a long time but he has done really well”.

The transfer market: “There are a few days left before the transfer market closes. It would be no surprise if a new player was to come and another was to leave. But that does not depend on us. In theory the squad is not 100% complete. We are still building the team, but I am happy with what I have got. I really liked today's match”.
