The Competition Committee has suspended Juan Carlos for one match

The player from Madrid will miss next Sunday's league match at the Vallecas stadium

The Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), following their meeting on 15 April in relation to the 33rd match day of the First Division League, have decided to impose a one-match ban on Juan Carlos, who was sent off during Sunday's match against Sevilla FC.

In a timely manner and according to specifications, Real Betis Balompié presented written pleadings providing video-graphic evidence which has been rejected by the Competition Committee, which in a public communication of judgements determined the following: "In this regard, even if Mr Juan Carlos Perez López did make contact with the ball, he coetaneously brought his adversary down as a result of the momentum of the aforementioned player (who was sent off) resulting from his manoeuvre to annul the advantageous position and distance of his adversary. In other words, in order to reach the ball in extremis the player from Real Betis Balompié SAD did not rule out the almost inevitable bringing down of the opposing player which constitutes a foul subsumed in Article 111.1.j), in conjunction with Article 114 of the Regulatory Code and, therefore, worthy of the expulsion subject of the objection raised (even though, for obvious lapses in transcription from the wording of the Referee's Report, there is an allusion in the written statement that the player in question was "booked")".

In addition, the Football Federation adds that"It has been manifested by disciplinary bodies in the sport that a divergent interpretation or discrepancy with the referee is not sufficient for the purposes of the disciplinary body to review a refereeing decision, since it falls within the scope of knowledge and competence of the first referee, unless it is an exceptional case involving an obvious objective error".

It is worth recalling that according to the referee's report prepared by Carlos Velasco Carballo, Juan Carlos was expelled "for bringing down an opponent during a challenge for the ball, ruining an obvious scoring opportunity". In any case, Real Betis will file an appeal to the Appeals Committee after receiving this notification, so that Juan Carlos will be available for Gabriel Humberto Calderón for the clubs visit to the Vallecas Stadium.
